Growing your
own Alfalfa sprouts is very easy. All you need is a mason jar, cheese cloth and
an elastic band. The Alfalfa seeds are widely available. Try to use organic
seeds when possible.
Place two tablespoons of Alfalfa seeds in a mason jar, leave the lid off to allow air to flow and cover the jar opening with a piece of cheese cloth held securely by an elastic band. Add water an let the seeds soak for 3 to 6 hours. Drain the water and leave the jar upside down on an angle to make sure all the water drains out and air gets in. You can drain most the water and then place the jar upside down on an angle in a small bowl to catch any remaining water. Each night and morning fill the jar with enough water to soak the sprouts and then immediately drain again. Sprouts will be ready to eat 3 to 4 days later.
